A prototype is the master pattern for a product, be it an action figure, nite lite, Christmas ornament, or bobblehead. The original sculpture is sent to China, where it is mass-produced into the toys and gift items you see in your local Walmart. This constitutes the majority of my professional work, and I can’t complain. Beyond paying the bills, I’ve had the good fortune of being hired by a multitude of companies to produce characters from many exciting licenses, from Disney and Lucasfilm, to Marvel and DC. My experience as a garage-kit sculptor, and studio prop-builder has served me well, and I’ve learned to work very fast, with great efficiency. As a result, I am often hired to sculpt entire product lines, something very rare in the toy industry.
